I was trying to upgrade my CPU when I found out the new one I ordered has the ability to overclock( G3258, old technologies's magic), I wanted to ask if it is possible with my computer the Acer Aspire xc-605, is overclocking possible on it. It has a G3220 CPU, MS-7869 ver 1.0 motherboard, 220W maximum power output, GTX620, and a 500GB HDD. Please let me know if it is possible or not. Thanks

Warthunderfan637, from my experience of upgrading allot of laptops/desktops successfully you have to upgrade appropriately and not stress hardware components out, now and what I suggest depends on your budget and how far you want to go? But this is the full and max upgrades that are appropriate to the XC-605.

Your XC-605 mobo has a PCH: Intel Lynx Point H81 chipset and takes a Socket 1150 cpu that is upgradeable, this desktop comes with a top spec OEM cpu from Acer that is the i7-4770 (3.4GHZ 8MB LGA 84W) cpu, why would you want to overclock the low grade G3258 cpu (that doesn't perform even to a low i3-4130 performance) as it will never ever come up to the performance of the i7-4770 performance! The XC-605 comes with the same mobo right across the board that is the OEM described mobo of a MB KIT AXC605 INTEL H81, RTL8111GA and part#: DB.SRPCN.001 which is the MS-7869 v1.0, so it will take the i7-4770 cpu.

What I would do (this depends on your budget and how far you want to go?) is this:

    1. Upgrade the OEM cpu to the i7-4770 (that has; 4 cores, 8 threads, 3.GHz to 3.9GHz, L3 8MB and 84TPD) not the G3258 (this cpu will never ever come to the spec of the i7-4770 cpu spec, no matter how much you overclock it) but if you do this, get an upmarket cpu fan and replace the OEM fan.
    2. Upgrade PSU from the low powered 220W to a 450W, that will also be suitable for a better gpu card that you may want to upgrade to later as the OEM gpu is a pretty low spec of either the NV GT625 2GB SDDR3 UEFI DSUB DVI-I/HDMI or the VGA CARD AMD HD8470 2GB UEFI DVI-I/HDMI, which you can easily upgrade to a GeForce GTX960 that will give you twice the graphics performance and suits the XC-605’s cpu, chipset and specs perfectly.
    3. Upgrade the spinner 3.5-inch SATA 3.0 HDD (the OEM models are 7200rpm SEAGATE or WD of either 500GB or 1TB or 2TB) to a 2.5" SSD (you can get a 2.5" to 3.5" Metallic SSD Bracket Adapter with Screws) so you can fit a 2.5" SSD into the case 3.5" slot
    4. Then increase your ram to the max memory of 16 GB (using two 8 GB DDR3-1666MHz modules) with the 240-pin SO-DIMM memory. The recommended brands are either the Kingston or Hynix memory types.
    5. Update to the last bios of version P21.A4 for the XC-605.
All these updates and upgrades is a much better options and simpler job than overclocking that could give you allot of conflicting and breakdowns of your system and will also overheat the cpu. Btw, all this will run Win-10 latest version 20H2 OS build 19042.928 perfectly and you will be able to play mid to high rage games also.

    MS-7869 ver 1.0 motherboard, Part #: DB.SRPCN.001 or DB.SRRCN.001

Ok, thank you very much for your helpful tips! I have one question though, if I'm going to upgrade my PSU, I have been looking around the web but I can't seem to find a PSU that will fit my case...
    Look something like this:
