I am trying to install linux on a new ssd. I found out that the SATA mode should be AHCI mode. I changed it from 'rst with optane' to 'ahci'. But when I get into the ubuntu installer, it doesn't detect my ssd at all. Always it detects my hdd. If I choose the somthing else option for partitions, there I can see the ssd. But I don't know how to use it so I want to use the normal installation procedure. I f anyone knows how to detect this pls tell.

When you say it can't see it, do you mean it's just auto selecting it but you can use the manually create partitions box thing to install to it?

If so are you looking to dual boot or just Ubuntu?

While auto selecting installation, it shows only WDC 1TB. In the manually create partitions I can use the ssd but I dont know how to do the manual thing. I want to dual boot. I hit accepted answer by mistake pls ignore that.

What version of ubuntu? From at least 20.04 onwords it should give you an option to install it along side 🤔

Starter, dual booting can be risky and break the boot of the other machine, so make sure to back anything up you need firstand create a recovery drive!

When you get to the instalation type to do it manually its quite simple. Click the NTFS partion with the windows install, shrink it to free up around 40 GB, click the free space, place the boot loader on the raw drive with the boot loader on, it doesnt go in a partition:

The reason we write the boot loader to the raw drive is so that GRUB can take primacy and deal with booting both Ubuntu and windows.

After this click the plus, set it to swap, 2 GB (this is the page file like on windows), if you want you can skip:

Then use the rest of the space for the install and set it to ext 4, mount point of / :

Install now -> Follow the install

On the next boot you will see grub like this:

Select windows for windows, and ubuntu for linux.

Have you tried to boot into windows with AHCI to check if it bluescreens? You may need to do some things in the regsitry / boot options to make it work. Also sorry for the size of the screenshots 🤣

Thanks, I will try this. I had to change the boot options in windows to use it in AHCI.
I am facing some SSD issues currently so I won't be able to install linux. Once it's fixed I'll get back to you but most likely it should work cuz now I know how to do it manually too. Thanks again :)
