ConceptD Ezel 7 overheats/auto shutdown w/ real-time 3D rendering

I've had two freezes then the laptop shuts off automatically when under heavy real-time 3D rendering (architecture software & rendering - Revit and Enscape3D). It doesn't take very long - maybe 30 minutes. I'm using an external monitor and the laptop is in clamshell mode. I know it's getting really hot, but shouldn't the fans be able to keep it cool even if they have to run really high? Combined with this, shouldn't the gpu throttle down so the fans can keep up? Should I put it up on a stand? I can't imagine 3D real-time rendering is any more taxing than high-resolution gaming... I'm up to date with all the Windows and nVidia driver updates. Is there somewhere I can check the logs for what caused the auto shutdown? Thanks for any tips.

Yes to both of those, if the fans are ramping up as they are supposed to you should see temperatures at or slightly above 90C, but shouldn't reach the 100C threshold where things shut off. Can you run a temperature monitor such as Core Temp to see what they are actually doing? I suspect you are going to be best off to let Acer step in and do a repair, but let's try and help them with diagnostics first. It could be poor thermal compound placement, or a fan problem, or something else...

Thanks, Bill. I had the exact same spontaneous reboot from a desktop with a bigger gpu, so I think this isn't an Acer thing. I do need to get it off the desk in clamshell mode, but the reboot is probably software-related.

It's actually pretty tough for an app to be able to do that horrid of a crash. You should give the developer kudos in a tongue in cheek way. :)
