Hi everyone

I'm configuring this small laptop for a friend who doesn't have lots of money. It is using Windows 8.1 and I installed all the patches and updates available. On the Acer site for this laptop,

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/4666?b=1&pn=NX.M83AA.004&sn=31902723976

there is a firmware update for the HDD (WD 3200BPVT-22JJ5T0) to apparently increase hard disk performance.

I downloaded this update and when I try to run wdi_9545.exe from it, it gives me an error that there is no qualified drive.

I try using the Western Distal Dashboard and it does see and test the drive perfectly but does not offer me the option to upgrade the firmware neither tell me which firware version it is running. I searched the web but can't seem to find an adequate answer.

What can I "safely" do? I don't want to ruin my friend's laptop with a firmware update that does not go well!

Thanks

Firstly, try to go device manager, click on arrow in disk drives section. It will show the model of the HDD that you are using.

    Thanks for your quick response

I went that route before but for documentation purposes it confirms that the drive is a WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0. Same model as in the Western Digital Dashboard.

Windows reports the device as functioning correctly. Driver is Windows version 6.3.9600.16384 (winblue_rtm.130821-1623). No new driver available when I tried to update it.

Likely it just means the update has already been installed.
