Laptop off for long time

I am not going to use my laptop for about 2 months. I know it might not sound as a long period of time, however, I want to be on the safe side as long as the battery life is concerned. Since it is not a removable battery (yes, it could be removed but why going through all the hassle), my friends have offered two options:

1. Shut down the laptop and leave it plugged in.

2. Shut down the laptop, the battery stays charged at 60% to 80% and leave it unplugged.

Which of these is recommended if the laptop is unused for extended periods of time?

Laptop batteries can be  plugged in all the times, its designed in that way. but if there is any power fluctuation then it might harm both battery and charger. so i would suggest you to unplug from the charger. charge the battery to 80 or 100% and turn of the unit with a proper shutdown option on the screen and not manually a hard shutdown. it should help.

    Thank you for your reply.
I will unplug it, use it on battery for a while until it drops to 90% nd then turn it off. One more question: If the battery stays not fully charged for a long time (say 2 months for instance like in my case), doesn't this shorten its life?
