I have a Nitro 5, AN515-53, that came with 8gb of ram. After some reading I bought another 8gb of ram that should work in there no problem. Unfortunately after installing the new ram the laptop won't boot up. Keyboard lights up but that's it. I tried all 6 different combinations of the old and new ram I could think only to discover that any time the new ram is in the computer it won't boot up.
Just old ram in lower slot, works.
Just old ram in top slot, works.
Just new ram in lower slot, nothing.
Just new ram in top slot, nothing.
Old ram in bottom with new ram in top, nothing.
New ram in bottom with old ram in top, nothing.

I updated the bios to see if that would help, nope. I will include pics of old and new rams. The new one is the PNY.

    Hi,
When it's not working on it's own, most probably the module may be faulty(DOA), so I would suggest you return it and buy another brand like KIngston Value RAM, Samsung, Hynix etc.
Make sure that you don't mix any modules with XMP profiles with your original module, buy the new module with JEDEC profile, memory modules with XMP profile will work in your laptop but you have to replace the original module as well but you can not mix XMP profile module and JEDEC profile module.
You could try this before sending for refund/replacement, install the memory module, go to BIOS screen and move to Main tab, press F9 button then press F10 to Save and Exit.

    Hi TheSparkMaster,

    # Try to get the BIOS page.

    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
    3. You will be in setup utility page.
    4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
    5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

This is an old thread, but I think I've found the solution if anybody is having this problem.

If you experience a blank screen after upgrading memory in the Acer Nitro 5, try waiting for a few minutes after booting up, after putting the new memory in. I put two 16GB memory modules in, turned the computer on, and got a blank screen.

I waited about a minute or two, and then my Nitro 5 booted up without any problems, and recognized the memory.

Apparently, the computer is running some kind of task to recognize the memory before anything happens.

I hope that helps someone out there!
