Model of my Nitro is AN515-51, I would hope this is enough information to answer my question. Also if I want to upgrade my ram does the other ram stick have to be the same as the one installed or can it be different brand?

You can try to open task manager, click on performance, memory. It shows current ram specs and remaining slot. Different brands is fine but don't get one that has XMP.
Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

New Ram specs need to match with existing ram.
I do NOT recommend using two ram sticks of different sizes. Waste of money
If you want best ram performance then make sure
1)Both ram sticks to be of equal size
    2) Both ram sticks to be of equal voltage
    3) Both ram sticks to be of equal CL (cas latency)
    4) Equal Mhz (eg-2400mhz) DDR4 ram sticks

You can check ram details from CPU-Z

Under the memory and spd tabs, the memory tab shows you what its running at at the moment both speed and CL, the SPD tab tells you rated timings and speeds. Its both the frequency and CL you need to match :)
