Constant restart, inability to restore, Windows 7

Hi there,

I own an Acer Aspire X3400 with Windows 7, which I bought brand new in 2010. It was pre-loaded with software and the box did not contain any disks. The computer is now constantly restarting, not allowing me to enter safe mode of any kind, not allowing me to perform a system repair or restore, not allowing me to go to the last good configuration. When I do get into the restore, it takes hours and hours, and then when it restarts, it goes right back to the same loop of frustration. I have the added heartache of having stored all of our family files on this computer, and am sick at the thought of losing all of it.

I am not very tech savvy, and would be appreciative of any input or advice. Thanks.

Have you tried the BIOS option offered by pressing the Delete key immediately after the display lights up as power comes on?  You should be able to select an option which will allow Windows 7 to attempt to heal itself.  I would unplug anythin that didn't come with the computer you relatively recently tried to install.   I had similar problems when I plugged in a SATA 2 external disk drive caddy with a 600 GB drive in it which I had been using in the past after inadvertently updating some Intel drivers on my Acer Aspire Z3731 of about the same vintage.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. I did try that and it still reverts to this loop of restarting over and over. I'm at a loss.
