Windows 10 updated, now 'lid close' doesn't do anything - Swift SF515-51

Win 10 recently updated on my Acer Swift SF515-51 laptop. Now nothing happens when I close the lid (apart from the laptop getting warmer and the fan getting noisier).

This happens whether I set it (in Power options) to 'sleep', 'hibernate' or 'close down' when the lid closes.

Choosing 'sleep' etc. from the power menu still works, but automatically doing something helpful when I close the lid shouldn't really be an optional feature these days. I haven't changed anything else, no external devices attached. It's clearly been borked by the latest windows update.

Any suggestions about anything else I could try?

So are you expecting the unit to be turned off when the lid is closed??

Check in Device Manager to see if any of the USB devices are having issues. I believe that signal is presented to the hardware as if it were plugged into USB. It also might be in the chipset drivers. If the OS doesn't see the closed lid, it doesn't know to do anything.

I'm expecting, when  I close the lid, for it to sleep - the way it always did, until after the last Windows 10 update. The lid USB driver claims to be working properly.

So did you find anything amiss in Device Manager, even though not visibly the lid sensor?

What I am trying to determine is if the USB hub that services the USB port that connects to the lid sensor is working. If the underlying hub is having issues you can get symptoms that look like corrupted data on the port. Note that both the hub and port are kind of virtual, in that they don't have a physical connection except in the motherboard itself.

Device Manager doesn't report any driver problems.

OK, so not one of the easy fixes then... Try reinstalling the chipset drivers and the serial IO drivers.

Alas, reinstalling chipset drivers & serial IO drivers hasn't made it sleep or shut down when the lid is closed.
  • When you press fn + f4, does the computer suspend or hibernate properly?

Pressing Fn + F4 key does nothing. Pressing the 'Zz' key (= F1 key) works fine, putting it into 'sleep'.
