Hello, I bought a Acer Nitro AN515-43, and currently running Linux on it. I have been using an external monitor through the HDMI port, but I now bought a second monitor, and tried to connect it through the USB-C port on the laptop and it doesn't work. I tried another laptop and the monitor did work through it. Is the USB-C port on the Acer not supporting video? How else can I connect the second monitor? Thanks

It doesn't support display port over usb  on that line I'm afraid. You can use a usb display link adapter instead to connect it, they use usb data to send data to the screen

Hi, thank you very much for answering me so quickly. So you mean an HDMI (monitor) -> USB (laptop) cable would work? USB-C port does not have video but the USB ports do?

Ish, its not that the USB ports support HDMI / display. Its that DisplayLink ( https://www.displaylink.com/products/find?cat=3&maxd=1  ) uses a special driver to send the monitor data over the USB connection. All you need is a driver

On amazon you have the offically supported ones which are all linked on the displaylink site, and then quite a few knock offs for quite a bit cheaper. The give away is if the listing says that "a driver is needed for display out" its probs unlicences display link

Thank you. So will this product work out of the box if I connect it to the USB-C port in my laptop, and connect my two monitors in the HDMI ports of the adapter?

Moreover, will it require drivers in the laptop? Because I'm running linux.

All displaylink products require drivers, and it would depend on what flavour you're running. Ubuntu i think is the only 'offical' one ( https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu ) . It has the branding so should work after driver install :)

Got it. So I need a a) DisplayLink adapter, and b) DisplayLInk driver, and if I got those two then the adapter should be good to connect two monitors over my USB-C port.

    Thanks!

Just seen on the bottom of that one :
Not compatible with: macOS; Linux/Unix; Chrome OS; or ARM-based Windows operating systems.
it looks like plugable dont offically support it but have a point to the offical forum to help with troubleshooting:

If you hit any problems let me know, i use a display link display and will spin up box to poke at it if needed :)
