Connect to printer via Wi-Fi

Hi. With Google cloud print now discontinued, I'm unable to print from my Chromebook. I have a Canon Pixma 2900 printer that is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as my Chromebook. I know it works because I can print from my phone using Wi-Fi. I can also save to Google Drive on my Chromebook and print that way, but there must be a way to connect directly and save that extra step. My Chromebook does not "see" the printer. I followed the steps to add it manually using the IP address, but it still doesn't see it. It asks me for the printer PPD and will not activate the "add" button without that info. I think PPD is a windows driver, as far as I can tell. I'm using an ancient Acer ZHN Chromebook running version 76 and change (64 bit) which according to the device is the most updated version available. christy1 ! I've tried both without success. At the Play store I attempted to install the same app from Canon I use on my phone ... but it's only showing my phone, not my Chromebook. I tried signing in with a different Google account and then it says I have no available devices. Do you know how I'd get it to see my Chromebook? (screenshots attached)

For the Google support link, adding it manually doesn't work. I've attached a bunch of screenshots which will explain it best.

Again, I'm sure the printer and wifi settings are correct, as I can print through my phone. I have to go to the website, "print" the doc as a PDF, upload that PDF to Drive, download the PDF to my phone, open it with Canon print and then I can print it. (For some reason, using the print function "save to Google Drive" saves it in a pdf that my phone doesn't recognize, at least for printing).

Surely there's a better way!! Any ideas would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance :-) ~ Cera

Are you sure your printer is at 192.168.1.1? That's usually the address of your router...

Exactly it looks like router ip. also do you have 2g and 5g ? if so check on the same network name.

Jack22 thank you for the links. The first is for setting up Google cloud print which has been discontinued for some reason. The second link shows instructions on how to add a printer which I've followed but my Chromebook still can't "see" my printer. Thanks again! ~ Cera

Is it printing? looks like ink is low.

billsey and @christy1, thank you both ... yes, you're correct. I believe the correct IP is 192.168.1.230. If I type that # in the address bar of my Chromebook it shows me ink levels (screenshot below). The utilities are mostly about cleaning. The firmware settings are about proxy and DNS. I hesitate to change those as the printer does work through wifi and my phone. Thanks again, ~ Cera

Still researching. From Google's "migrate from cloud print" support page, it looks like my printer - Canon Pixma MG2900 series - is not compatible with a chromebook. Seriously? Is this possible? Is this why my Acer won't "see" it? Mind you, this chromebook and that printer have been working together for years. Common sense says if the printer is on the WiFi network, and the Acer is on the WiFi network there should be a way to connect the two.
Another thing I've come across is Google suggesting I turn cloud printing services off as part of the migration. When I go in to settings/advanced/printers/google cloud print it says there are no devices found. Perhaps those instructions were only relevant while cloud print was operational?
Glad I can still print, at least, albeit in a ridiculously complicated way ... Still searching for a better way. So frustrating. Thanks in advance for any additional help or suggestions. ~ Cera
