Aspire V5-571 Force Boot using USB

Hello, so I recently had an issue where my laptop was somehow left without an operating system and I got a bootable USB with windows ten. Getting the BIOS menu up didn’t work as I only heard a beep when clicking F2 then nothing happened. So I was told to force boot with the USB by holding down Fn and Esc until the USB lights up. The screen has been black for over 3 hours now and I don’t want to turn the laptop off if it disrupts the boot. Is my laptop still trying to boot using the USB or am I just waiting for nothing. How can I get the laptop to run.

No, I dont think the device is booting.

I would suggest you to disconnect external devices like USB and then turn off the unit.

Now connect the Bootable USB drive and while powering on the unit keep press F12 until you get advance options

    Here chose the USB boot.

Turn the laptop off and then go and undo the V5-571 back case to get to the V5-571 CMOS battery (It’s a CR2032 3V Lithium button battery) take the CMOS battery out for 5 min (best is to get a new battery) and reinstall it, then reboot and press F2 (immediately at the splash screen) to get into the bios, inspect all the bios settings then go to Exit and "Load Setup defaults" then reboot. See if that reinstates your OS? If not, then reboot and press F2 and get into the bios, go to Boot section and change the 1st boot priority to USB so that you can boot with the “Windows 10 installation media” USB so that you can use the troubleshooting and repair features and/or reinstall Windows. Try that first as I've had experience with the Aspire V's and that is a first step that you should take if you can't get into the bios, don't do anything drastic (if you want to keep your data) after see if you can reboot into your OS.

Also, what is the OS that you are using? Is it Win-8 or Win-10? And has your V5-571 got the UEFI v 2.17 or 2.18 bios' or the MBR v1.22 bios?

I was using windows 10 but was told my version was very old and when I went to update it, this happened. That’s what’s making me wonder whether this is a hardware problem, because it was all working fine before the update

If it’s an old V5-571 then its an MBR/Legacy bios, which is better as you can boot into the USB installation troubleshooter USB easier, it could also be your old HDD which is a spinner HDD and they are prone to faults and slow booting and errors, especially being so old. Try the steps that I've outline above and let us know. As I've got a V3-571G (that is pretty much the same as the V5-571) that had an MBR/Legacy bios that came with Win-8 and I modded it to UEFI (which I don’t know if you can do to yours?) and put an SSD 2.5" 6GB/sec SATA drive and also put 2x DDR3-1866MHz running at Dual memory and the thing is perfect and working 100% with Win-10 latest version.

F12 may not work until you get into the BIOS and enable it... F2 early and often during the initial boot to get the BIOS up.

Clicking F2 just makes a little beep then goes onto a restart loop. I’m going to do what StevenGen recommended tomorrow.

Well in attempting to get the CMOS battery by following the tutorial, I ended up pretty much breaking my whole laptop... the case bent and internal pieces started falling out. Clicking the power button does still work but it’s still the same restarting issue. Most likely will just buy a new laptop. Thanks for your help though!
