Chromebase 24 EOL - How to repurpose the Machine?

My experience at EOL on ChromeOS Chromebases (LG and now Acer)  has resulted in frustration and a certain resentment at manufacturers.

Physically the machines perform satisfactorily.

Then what, at EOL? DUMP them?   ---  This is irresponsible consumption.

These machines should be EASILY repurposed/used as Linux/BSD/Cloudready machines, or just working monitors.

ESPECIALLY SO FOR my one ACER CHROMEBASE 24 (BUDDY) which, as an all-in-one, has a superb monitor.

My observations are:

1) A Responsible manufacturer would PUBLISH clear "ALTERNATE USE" instructions for the known day of EOL?

2) All Manufacturers of ChromeOS-based equipment, should PUBLISH instructions on how the owner can reuse it as either a LINUX, BSD or Cloudready machine, even a Windows 10 Home box?

3) As a MINIMUM,  manufacturers should publish instructions on how to reuse an all-in-one Chromebase as a stand-alone monitor.

With this frustrating EOL experience, - twice, - I am now a responsible consumer.

The first two requirements above must be prominently displayed/available AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

Much as I like the ChromeOS experience I WILL NOT purchase another ChromeOS machine (3 times so far) UNTIL MANUFACTURERS act responsibly.

If enough ACER Chromebook, ChromeBox, and Chromebase users indicate support on this forum I will launch a website with such a petition addressed to all manufacturers using Chrome OS. And I will invite forum users to add their names there.

Please comment in this string.

sorry to say noncognito, but they are not responsible to neither of those points here.. you can find the EOL yourself here: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en and you bought a Chromebook to used it as such, if you want to alter the original factory settings of any products "that's on your own" and you can certainly search all over the internet for help on using your chrome product as a Linux machine, keep in mind that nothing its guarantee that will work 100% like you wish for or at all, so its @ your own risk, OEM not responsible for that. good luck

You can continue to use the computer with the ChromeOS, it just won't be getting new updates from Google. It will likely be some time before anything doesn't work...
