Acer Spin 713: Wifi 6 Issues Asus RT-AX88U

I have an Asus RT-AX88U router (WiFi 6). At 5GHZ/Wifi 6 the Spin 713 has sporadic WiFi connection drops. I have tried two 713 machines and both had the same issue- so it is not a Chromebook defect. I have other WiFi 6 machines on my network and they have no connectivity issues.

To resolve this issue, I have shutoff WiFi 6 AX capabilities on my router. However this is disappointing. Clearly Acer needs to do more testing on their implementation of WiFi 6. I consider this a serious issue that Acer needs to resolve.

Which model do you have? It sounds like you have one of the Spin Chromebooks not the Windows based Spins... Does it have the Intel AX200, AX201, or one of the other WiFi 6 implementations?

It is the Acer Chromebook Spin 713. I can't tell whether it is the speed of the connection at 5 GHz (640 mb/s) and/or Wifi 6 compatibility. At this point I am connecting it to a Wifi 5 repeater on a 5 GHz network that maxes out at 250 mb/s- and there is no issue. As setting the AX router to Wifi 5 didn't actually resolve the issue- it may well be a WiFi speed or possibly overheating issue. Also as the issue was present on two Spin 713  Chromebooks it appears to be a design issue and/or compatibility with the Asus RT-AX88U router.

I see Asus released updated formware for the router about a week ago, is that installed?

Yes- it has the latest firmware. I am guessing this model can't handle the speed, since WiFi 6 a 2.4 GHz is fine and no other device, including the Acer 715, has an issues with the 5GHz connection
