Hello Everyone

I have been dealing with this issue for a very long time and it is frustrating me.

I bought this gaming pc* in November 2018 so 2 years ago. The smoothness of my gaming has deteriorated, with every game. The first time I realised the fps dropping on all games was around March-April 2020 after a windows 10 update.

Then again recently probably a couple weeks ago my performance dropped again.

This is an issue with every game. (Battlefield 5, Cod WW2, Farcry 5, Total war, etc...)

I can compare it easily with Battlefield 5 and Farcry 5

The day I bought the pc I bought the game. The game played on Ultra high settings smoothly. (that is also the geforce experience recommended graphics)

After the first drop I had to lower my graphics to High. (although geforce still recommends Ultra)

Now I started playing the game again and It has too many frame drop and lots of lagging. (geforce experience still recommends Ultra)

Is this a normal deterioration of Gaming computers? is there something I can do about it? It is frustrating.

I know that a gaming Pc needs to be upgraded to play more recent games, I was at least expecting my pc to play the 2 year old games smoothly like when I first bought it.

Why can I not play at the same smoothness on the same game I played two years ago?

I have been updating my Graphic card drivers.

Doing regular anti virus scans.

Keeping it defragged

Only used about 50% of both Hard drive memory.

Been using PC only for gaming

Opening and cleaning with air regularly.

Windows have been reinstalled once by Currys PC World due to windows not turning on.

I even overclocked it safely, (minimal increase)

Temperatures are all fine

*Gaming PC:

  • Model: Acer Predator P03 - 600
  • Operating System : Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz (6 CPUs)
  • Memory: 8192MB RAM
  • Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Thank you for taking the time to read through this and help me.

    • My windows 10 is on the SSD 128GB where I only have the windows installed (~50% filled). All my games are on the 1TB HDD (75% filled)
    • I'm not sure about the model number? is it the SNIT or SN?
    • Memory usage checked on Task manager is: idle 29%-34%
    • Memory checked with MSI Afterburner and Riva TSS: while game loaded 70%, while playing went up to 90% (game was allot slower than normally due to MSI Afterburner and Riva TSS running in the background)

Firstly 8GB memory is a pretty low capacity memory these days for Win-10 and top end gaming, yes I know it functioned appropriately before but, with Win-10 e.g. the latest 20H2 update your system needs more memory. The operating system, application programs, and personal files are stored in hard drives, while RAM stores the data in current use for short-term so that they can be accessed by the processor of the device quickly. It is almost directly connected with CPU, and the data of the computer will go through the RAM while flowing to or from the hard drive.

I would update the memory and match your OEM specs (use CPUID for that) as the PO3-600 can  take a max capacity of 64GB of total memory into its 4x slots, increase your memory by at least 1x 8GB matching your OEM memory specs into its 2nd slot or get e.g. 2x or 4x memory of higher capacity kits of either 32GB or 64 GB kits total, make sure that they are all the same speed/timing as putting different speed/timing memory will reduce your memory speed/timing to the lowest common denominator. The suitable OEM memory for your PO3-600 mobo and the 8th gen Intel i5-8400 CPU is either the DDR4-24000MHz or the DDR4-2666Mhz, don't go any higher speed/timing than the DDR4-2666Mhz. Also, repaste your CPU with the new Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme paste using the 'pea dot method' as that will also assist in keeping your cpu cooler and functioning much better and also get a better case and/or cpu fans that will extract heat out of the cpu and the case enclosure more affectively. There are a very wide variety of these cpu and case fans for appropriate budgets available as the OEM is pretty ordinary.

What drive do you have? SSD or HDD? Model number? When running Windows at idle, how much memory is in use? How much with the game loaded?
