What am I doing wrong with my second HDD?

Hi all,
I've bought a secondary 1tb HDD from Toshiba because I want more storage. I've looked countless times how to properly install the hdd, looking at the acer website directly and many youtube videos. Whenever I put it in with the upgrade cable supplied with the laptop it doesn't work. The hdd spins and makes noises on startup but that's it. When I'd opened up disk management there's nothing more there and when I check BIOS, it doesn't register it there either. What am I doing wrong and what am I likely going to have to buy to make it work?
Thank you for your time

Ok, boot to Windows and follow the instruction below:
    1. Clck the Start Button and type cmd
    2. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator
    3. Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
    4. Restart the computer and enter BIOS Setup by tapping on F2
    5. Change the SATA Operation mode  from RST to AHCI (press crtl+s on the main tab if the option is not visible)
    6. Save changes and exit Setup and Windows will automatically boot to Safe Mode.
    7. Right-click the Windows Start Menu once more. Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
    8. Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot (ALT: bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot)
    9. Reboot once more and Windows will automatically start with AHCI drivers enabled.

Well re-seat it one more time and check again. BTW did you tried to connect the HDD to another machine to check if it is not defective? Cable could be bad as well.

So I reseated it and there was no change in the BIOS. I restarted the laptop once again and the hdd started buzzing loudly and there was a cla-click sounding noise coming from it during startup

also I had previously tried a different hdd in the laptop last month or so from a past laptop that had been sitting in storage after breaking, that hdd didn’t show up in BIOS either

Do you have a 2.5` SSD to try? And what about the sata cable from the broken laptop could you try it as well?
