Chromebook 315 keyboard issues model N17Q9

I have a Chromebook 315, model N17Q9, which seems to have persistent problems with the keyboard...the problems are somewhat intermittent, but seem to reoccur no matter what I do to try to rectify.  The most common problem is that when you use the letter 't' a new tab opens.  Note that is just hitting 't' , not employing the shortcut 'ctrl t' for a new tab.   Occasionally other keys just don't work or all keys don't work.  Doesn't seem to matter what browser is being used (Chrome, Firefox, Opera) as problems manifest in all.  Have tried hard resets and even a powerwash to no avail.  Assuming then it's a hardware problem?   Anyone experienced this or anyone who can give any advice?  I have emailed Acer support a week or so ago, but no response yet other than autoreply.   thx!

So it sounds like you might have some stickyness in the keys, such that the Ctrl key is read as pressed for a while after using it, and the 'T' press is actually a 'Ctrl-T'. Have you had any spills on the Chromebook?

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post.  No spills on the machine at all, but I did think about being a problem related to the Ctrl key.  It has been cleaned around and underneath though, and that didn't resolve the problem, unfortunately.

Many thanks again for the feedback.

Here is an app that gives a visual representation as you press keys. Maybe that would detect if it's a sticky key...

Dang, sorry about that, it's a Windows app so wouldn't work... I'll keep searching for a ChromeOS equivalent.
