Hello,

I'm planning to update the BIOS of my Predator 17 G9-793 from version 1.04 to version 1.14. This is because I'm upgrading the current RAID 0 disk (2x LITE-ON CV1-8B128) to a single Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD. My questions are:
▪︎Is it okay to updade the BIOS from v1.04 to v1.14, skipping versions 1.06, 1.08, 1.09, 1.11, 1.12 and 1.13?
▪︎Can I do the update via Windows Safe Mode to guarantee that no apps are running in the background during the update?
▪︎Is there a link available for my particular model (G9-793) to guide me?

Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes, you can update BIOS to 1.14 from 1.04, there are no guarantee that the update will be safe but if you take certain precautions it will be successful, I don't know whether you can update BIOS is Safe Mode because I have never tried it, I couldn't find any links for this particular model.
These are the precautions you can take:
    1. Fully charge the battery(100%).
    2. Disable/Uninstall any third party AV programs.
    3. Disable all Start-up Programs in Task Manager.
    4. Remove any peripherals connected to the laptop, like USB drives, Printers etc.
    5. Choose a time when others in your household not using the Internet, make sure that there won't be any Power cuts in your area(this is not in your control).
    6. Disable all known background Apps/Programs running.
    7. Download the BIOS file from Acer support site.
    8. Extract the.zip file to the Desktop.
    9. Keep the AC adapter connected during the update process because BIOS update will not function with Battery power alone.
    10. Open the extracted folder in the Desktop, right click  .exe file and select Run as Admin, follow the prompts.
Once the process starts move away from the laptop, you may see blank screen for extended periods but don't touch any buttons on the keyboard or power off the laptop, you can only hope for the best until the laptop boots.

I greatly appreciate the guide you provided me brummyfan2! I just did the BIOS update and everything went smoothly. Well... there was a very minor hiccup that I encountered, but I managed to fix it:
After the BIOS update, I checked the BIOS utility and saw in the Security section that the HDD0, HDD1 and HDD2 displayed a "Frozen" state. So, I did some online research and found out that I had to do the Load Setup Defaults, which I did. I also cleared the Supervisor Password. I went back to BIOS utility and the states of the hard disk drives changed back to "Clear." YAY!!!
  • You are welcome and glad you got the BIOS sorted  :)
