ASPIRE M5-481PT NEEDS TOUCH AND PEN DRIVER

I have an Acer Aspire M5-481PT, and for the first few weeks my touch screen worked fine. One day though, it suddenly stopped responding, and so I did some research and tried to figure out what was wrong. According to the websites that I looked at, my laptop was missing the "Touch and Pen Driver."

So I contacted Acer and told them that my computer was under warranty and that I needed this driver. They told me that they couldn't provide me with the driver and told me to contact Microsoft. I did so; Microsoft told me that they didn't want to give me the driver because it might void my warranty, so they told me to contact the supplier, Best Buy, directly. I did so; Best Buy told me that they didn't have the driver and so they told me to contact Geek Squad. I did so; Geek Squad told me that they could give me the driver for a fee. I told them that my computer was under Acer software warranty and they told me that such a thing didn't exist and that they would have to charge me to give me the driver.

I didn't know that it was possible for me to encounter so many idiots within 72 hours, but I guess we learn something new everyday, don't we?

In the end, I still need my driver. Acer, since I am under warranty, please provide me the needed driver.

I've looked at Driver Downloads page before and was not able to find my driver. If it actually is there, can you please link me directly?

Touch and Pen is a package that is normally installed with Windows for touch based devices.  There is not a seperate driver package to install.

Why are you needing to install drivers?  Did you change the OS on the system?

You can reinstall the factory load which will contain all of the necessary drivers for the system.

I never changed my system or uninstalled it. After a Windows Update, my touchscreen no longer worked.

I tried to find what the problem was, and noticed that I was missing the Touch and Pen Driver was missing from my computer, so I assume that is the issue.

Have you attempted to roll the system back before the Windows Update that caused the issue?

Yeah that doesn't work. And after seeing what the user before me went through I don't even want to attempt to go through the same thing seeing that I also went to best buy. My screen didn't even last a week. Doing a system resotre is meaningless. I went back a day before it messed up and its still the same.

I'm having the same problem. In my case I changed the saturation setting in my display settings and the touchscreen stopped working. My computer now says no pen or touch input. It's making my crazy. I did a full system restore from disks and I still have the same issue. Tried Acer support and it was useless. Why can't we just download the f#*king driver?!

Let me try to help pngai, the original poster.

I found four reviews of your rig; one ripped the daylights out of it, one praised it to High Heaven, one was favorable, and one was from a person with a complaint. A common thread was that the Aspire M5-481PT is an Edsel. They crammed too much into it for the price, so you have a lot of parts that aren't up to the tasks.

If you did a System Restore and then did a re-install, you ought to have all your drivers. You might just have a mechanical failure. Windows Updates are fairly common, and the fact that you received one just before it failed might be a co-incidence.

Now, to all three of you with this problem: if a repair shop offers to install the drivers for a fee, that might be a good idea. Since Acer says that the necessary software is a Windows problem, then Acer isn't going to accept responsibility.
