OSD screen alternating between HDMI and Auto input during operation ACER EBQ222

I have an ACER EBQ222  SN XXXXX  that randomly brings up the OSD input selection menu on the monitor and flashes between HDMI and Auto.  It will pop up randomly and when I hold down the Up arrow for twenty seconds it will disappear and then return to normal... for awhile.  The monitor is about two years old.  Any ideas how to fix this?

That can happen when the signal coming in is a bit spotty. Verify the cable is fully seated at both ends and is not starting to fray, especially where it might be bent. Every time the monitor thinks it's dropped the signal it switches to auto, then sees the signal again and goes back to normal.
