Picked up this model of the Aspire 5 last October and loved it. IPS display, MX250 graphics, a clocked down i5 and a battery that could last most of the day.

Was working perfectly until today.  Last time I charged it was 2 days ago and it was fine. Today, when the battery hit 10%, I plugged in the charger but the laptop wouldn't recognize it.  The laptop auto-shutdown at 5%.  Tried resetting the battery but nothing has worked. About to buy a new 19v 3.42a power cord to see if that is the  issue.  Unfortunately my warranty expired a few months ago.

Please help. I love the laptop.  I am a poor student and I cant afford another one.  Currently typing on my cell phone.

You are very likely right, the supply has gone away. If you have the tools you could check the output voltage, and of course you can visually look to make sure the socket still has the center electrode. The power socket is directly soldered to the motherboard, so it's very unlikely to have pulled loose. Make sure the supply you buy has 65W 19V 1.1x3.0x7.7 specs, many of those supplies have 1.35mm center holes, and that won't give good contact to that center electrode.

I cancelled the order because it def wasnt the correct size.  Having a lot of difficulty finding the correct charging tip now.

This one will work, though you can likely find one with the right angle plug as well. The key parameters are 19V, 65W and 3.0x1.1 plug.
