Acer Spin 5 - SP513-54N - Stylus doesn't work

I already had to warranty the first stylus because the tip was broken when I received my laptop and never worked. I asked the customer rep if I had to do anything to pair the new stylus with my computer, they said no. 

So now I have a new stylus with an intact tip, but the computer doesn't register it at all when I attempt to use it. What am I doing wrong?

Is the battery intact and with nothing obstructing it's contacts?

I'm assuming you mean the stylus battery, and if so yes far as I can tell the battery is intact and the contacts are not obstructed. I just received the new stylus yesterday in the main from Acer.

Good enough, though it would still be nice to know what failed on the old one... They are pretty simple.

The new stylus also didn't work. After spending more time on the phone with tech support I looked inside the computers docking port for the stylus and can see that one of the contacts is bent. So I'm now assuming that was the problem and we are having a new device sent. 

Just to make sure I understand correctly. The stylus should work right out of the box without any kind of pairing or other software changes or updates?

That's what I've always seen with the Acer's I have that come with a stylus.
