My Acer 5-575 laptop with 8gb ram- i3-700U CPU, 64 bit OS is running very slow after recent Windows 10 updates. I've deleted many programs, including Microsoft Edge, but now Edge has returned and I cannot get an Uninstall to start in Task Manager. I click on Microsoft Edge in the list of program, choose change and nothing happens.
Any thoughts?

Your Acer E5-575 is quite a capable Win-10 laptop, with its 8GB RAM, i3-7100U CPU Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated GPU and an SSD and spinner HDD it should not be “is running very slow after recent Windows 10 updates” which is very unusual as the "Win-10 Updates" has nothing to do with your problem!

Firstly, the Win-10 update(s) does not slow your laptop down, it should make your system work better and quicker! Why have you "Deleted Many Programs" and "MS Edge"??? You don't have to do that as MS Edge is part of Win-10 and it has an effect on Win-10 if deleted!

I’m saying this from personal experience and many years of using MS Windows! One of my laptops that I’m using, which is a much lower spec laptops than your Acer E5-575 runs the latest Win-10 version 20H2 OS build 19042.572 without any problems and without its speed being affected, as a matter of a fact, its speed has been increased and streamlined. Have you ever maintained your drives? If not then do the following:

    • Go to This PC > right click on boot drive (C;) > Properties > Disk Cleanup > “Clean up system files” and do a general “Cleanup” also as there could be allot of update files and unwanted files there that will free your drive space and also speed up you system, do that first.

Second, inspect if your drive(s) are working properly, use a program like CrystalDiskMark to test your SSD and spinner HDD speeds and functionality, there could be a fault there, check your RAM if it functions properly. Btw, your Acer E5-575 can take 32GB max RAM of DDR4-2400 to 2666MHz and has 2x slots (2 banks of 1) for the RAM and your storage drive(s) form factors are of 2.5" HDD or SSD and it also takes M.2 3D NAND M.2 Type 2280 Internal SSD which are all at SATA 3 - 6Gb/s (it does not take PCIe NVMe type M.2’s)

This problem that you are having is either a hardware one or you haven’t maintained your Win-10 OS and have got allot of corrupted files on it, hence your Win-10 OS not working properly. My suggestion to you is if you can’t fix your OS (as I’ve suggested above) then do a “Fresh Install” of Win-10 then do the updates, as that will definitely fix all your software problems but NOT your hardware problems if you have any? If its hardware then you have to replace the appropriate hardware.

Thanks StevenGen for this helpful advice. A couple of questions:
1 - You mentioned that my computer has an SSD, which I think stands for Solid State Drive. I wasn't aware of that, I know I have a spinning hard drive, I think that's the "spinner HDD" you mentioned. Where would I check to confirm whether I have an SSD?
2 - Regarding the "many programs" I deleted, when I deleted several programs, including Avast and CC Cleaner, the performance improved significantly. Hopefully it will improve even more when I do that "Clean up system files".
    3. Since I use Chrome as my browser, I feel like I don't need MS Edge. How is MS Edge used by Windows 10 other than for browsing.
    Thanks again for the advice.

    Answers to your questions:

    1. The simplest way to know if it’s a spinner HDD or an SSD is by going to “Device Manager” and looking at “Disk Drives” and note down their manufacturer and model numbers, then, check on the web for their specs of your appropriate disk drives as that will tell you if you have an SSD 2.5 inch or a M.2 and/or a spinner HDD. Usually a spinner HDD is a SATA drive that quotes its spinning revolutions like 5200rpm or greater the SSD's M.2 or 2.5" don't and state that they are an SSD, simple.
    2. Yes, doing a “Clean Install” will speed up your system if your system is as slow as what you have described as, antivirus, malware cleaners and all the unnecessary software usually slows systems down especially if you are running a spinner HDD and not an SSD drive. After you do a “Clean Install” get a FREE antivirus with its minimal protective features as Win-10 has its own inbuilt “Virus & threat protection” that is adequate and does not use up computer resources, that is what I’ve done for years and it works perfectly with modern laptops/desktops and older laptops/desktops, this is just my opinion.
    3. Edge is Microsofts newest Win-10 OEM browser just like they had Internet Explorer before integrated into windows. Chrome or Firefox or any other browser can be used as Edge will not interfere and/or affect your other browsers performance, its your choice.
