No, the old drive was dead. I damaged it while trying to boot it up to an average laptop using a usb to sata device. The sata cable got burnt on a lamp bulb while trying this. I was not paying attention to the cable when it happened. Long story short, I ended up buying a TB drive. I tried the other drive later with a new cable and it says no is found. Do to answer your question, no. I thought this would be easy. Just pop the window 7 installer in choose which kind and install. But it knot gets to the second step then it puts up a window after about 30 min. Saying it cannot install not enough drivers or corrupt file. So I guess I need you home to 10. Question dies the window s 10 need to be specially for Acer or can any 10 j staller dvd work. I saw several on eBay from 9.99 and up to 25.00. Some have 10 CDs some have 1 or 2 DVDs. I also saw dvd with acer drivers. What should I buy? I am used to upgrading one Imac and power Mac computers.

Firstly, are you sure that it’s an Acer Aspire Z6710 AIO and not an Aspire Z5710? As there is no such Acer AIO model. Also, you don’t need the special Win-10 Acer version a you can install the stand alone Win-10 from MS to a USB boot version (need at least 8GB USB drive) “Create Windows 10 installation media” from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and use this link Download tool now

Btw, you can still use the old Win-7 key to upgrade to Win-10 as long as you have a Microsoft Account to get the ‘MS Win-10 Digital License” that registers with your existing Win-7 key and the Win-10 Home or Pro is applicable to what Win-7 version you have? Also, you can upgrade your Aspire Z5710 AIO to make it more suitable for Win-10 by upgrading the Socket 775 CPU and upgrading the 4GB RAM.

Did you clone the old drive onto the new one? There shouldn't be a need to reinstall the OS, but an upgrade to W10 is still a good thing to do, since there are no more updates for W7 and next year they'll stop doing updates to W8 as well.

I understand your problem, do a “Clean Install & Delete” of Win-7 and have a look here: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-clean-install-windows-2624904 as this also has an install of Win-10 that you can do later. Follow every step as its too long to explain here. The reason that you are not getting past the driver’s stage is because you are connected to the web while the Win-7 installation is in progress, disconnect your Aspire Z5710 AIO from the web and install Win -7 without the “Ethernet wire” plugged in and follow the link and guide above. The installation should not ask you for drivers as the Aspire Z5710 came with Win-7 and Win-7 should install without any problems.

After you have installed Win-7, I would do a USB Win-10 installation media and either upgrade to Win-10 through an .ISO copy of Win-10 internally in Win-7 or do another “Clean Install & Delete” from the guide above, which is a very simple process.

Also and btw and while you are opening and changing the HDD on your Aspire Z5710 AIO you can upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB which is the max RAM that the Aspire Z5710 AIO can take and also upgrade the CPU also which will give you 40% more relative performance to your current specs and make Win-10 much more operable. Have a look here at a very good manual of a Z5710 and Z5700 AIO: https://www.manualslib.com/products/Acer-Z5710-Series-164841.html
