Ram upgrade A315-53-38kq

Hi, I’m looking at upgrading the RAM in my sons laptop and after a little bit of help. He has the Acer A315-53-38kq. This has optane RAM memory in it (16gb) and a spare slot for normal DDR4 RAM. looking at the specs I think I can add up to 20gb. However does this 20gb include the optane memory (meaning I can only 4) or can I add the full 20gb. 

Also would you please recommend a good one to use.

Hi,
Intel Optane and Random Access Memory(RAM) are separate, Intel Optane is used for accelerating the HDD in your system, you have 4GB onboard memory and a slot for an upgrade, you can install a 16GB  DDR4 2400MHz module to make the maximum total memory of 20GB.

Thank you for getting back to me. I could only see the optane, don’t know where the ram is then but I shall get 16gb and plug into the spare slot behind the flap. 

Is it just plug and play or do I need to install a driver?

No problem, you don't need any driver, just plug it in the slot and the system will recognize it, open the RAM door at the base cover and install.
