Hi,

I'm having a hard time booting my laptop via SSD. Whenever I think I've successfully cloned SSD, I'm always stuck at "Security Boot Failed". I've tried disabling security on boot but the screen would now be stuck at ACER logo.

Things I did:
  • Clone the factory default HDD with OS to my new SSD. Tools I've tried using were Mini Partition Tools, Samsung Data Migration, Macrium. The tool where I'm successful at cloning was the Mini Partition Tools. However, upon setting up BIOS to boot priority to SSD, I am faced with the "Security Boot Failed" issue.
  • Another workflow I tried is to create a recovery drive of my existing HDD. Then on shutdown, I removed HDD from the SATA connection so that only m.2 SSD would be connected. I tried recovering this pc via usb drive but it always fail at around 88%. Do note also that I've used several usb flash drive so that we can rule out that it was flash drive's fault.
  • Last thing I tried was to install a fresh windows 10 installation. I had success installing windows 10 OS to the laptop but again was circled back to my issue; "Security Boot Failed".
Is there compatibility issue? Did I miss a configuration in BIOS?

My Nitro5 Specs:
  • Model: Nitro An515-52
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8300H @2.30Ghz
  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX1050
  • HDD: Toshiba 1TB
  • SSD to be installed: Samsung V-NAND SSD 970 Evo Plus

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

    Hi,
I suspect the Samsung SSD being faulty(DOA), could you please check it by installing in another laptop or PC(probably a friend's), also please confirm that you haven't deleted any Healthy(EFI system) and Healthy(Recovery) partitions in your original HDD.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.
Disk 0 is my original HDD. Disk 1 is the samsung ssd.

Just to confirm, installing and upgrading to ssd should be a breeze right? like after cloning the original hdd and configuring correct bios setup, everything should work fine. I really have a hunch that I bought a defective SSD. hmmm

    Hi,
No problem, I think you can give the dragging method in Macrium reflect another try, run macrium reflect, delete all partitions from Samsung 970, then drag 100MB EFI partition to Samsung, then drag 1.00GB Recovery partition, drag Acer C partition and see whether it fixes the problem.

I've tried that too earlier and for some reasons, the Macrium doesn't work for me. Either the app crashes or during the cloning process, a fatal error will occur. Also with the Samsung's migration software, the failed result is similar.

I still haven't solved my issue. I've contacted local Acer support and was told that my Samsung NVME SSD is not supported on my AN515-52. I find it really strange that an SSD that fits perfectly, gets recognized by BIOS and even on windows explorer, is not compatible with my laptop.

Is it possible to have an M-keyed only slot (NVME) on my laptop that does not support NVME and supports SATA m.2 only? I'm really confused.
