Acer Aspire V Screen has stopped working

I purchased an Acer Aspire V5-591G in 2016, and it's worked more or less fine, until a few days ago. Out of nowhere, the screen stopped working. The laptop still turns on, and with an external monitor plugged in, it recognizes that monitor as the primary - and only - screen.

Downloading the Intel 15.40.14.64.4352 drivers fixed the problem for a few hours, before the screen clicked and shut off again. Checking for windows updates and downloading those fixed it again for several days, until this afternoon, when another windows update downloaded itself, my laptop restarted, and now it's not working anymore.

I'm at a loss. Can someone help me? I can't afford to get a new laptop, and I certainly can't carry this monitor to school with me...

If the external monitor is still working OK, you need to at least reseat or likely replace the LCD video ribbon cable due to conductor trace breaks in the hinge area from wear & tear of opening/closing the lid way too much.  A common problem with laptops. Jack E/NJ
