Hi I have an Acer Aspire ES1-531 series laptop. I tried to reset it to factory default (deleting everything) the process started and a screen with this message appeared:

"A configuration change was requested to clear this computer's TPM (Trusted Platform Module). Warning: Clearing erases information stored on the TPM. You will lose all created keys and access to data encrypted by these keys. Press YES to clear the TPM. Press NO to reject this change request and continue. Do you accept the change?"

I then tried to respond by pressing YES but the computer did not respond it just stayed on that screen with the above message and even if I turn it off and on again it just opens to the same screen with the same message. I also, tried Alt+F12, I tried F2 and F10. nothing happens it's just stuck in the same screen, can you kindly assist me please. My Acer kept freezing every time and it was extremely slow that is why I opted for resetting it to factory default.....

Thank you

Regards, Zwai

First of all, TPM, Trusted Platform Module, is a chip embedded on your Aspire ES1-531 motherboard that helps enable tamper-resistant full-disk encryption without the need of an extremely long complicate passphrase. Anyway those are the basics but you want to know “How to clear the TPM”?

There are two ways of doing it but seeing that you started installation and you can’t get into windows and into PowerShell and/or Windows Defender Security Center app to clear it, the bottom line is that you can’t install Windows on this HDD as its locked, the only way toclear it is with the command of the “Clear-TPM” that should have been done prior to installation in PowerShell? That is If you can still get into windows? Then you will have to get on to PowerShell and run the following cmd in an elevated PowerShell session and type in Clear-TPM as that will clear TPM and you will be able to install windows.

What I suggest (if you cant clear TPM) is for you to replace your spinner HDD as your Aspire ES1-531 has a spinner HDD which are slow for Win-10 and replacing it with a 2.5 inch SATA 3 - 6Gb/s SSD 500GB is a much better option as you will have 100% performance improvement with excellent results from an SSD, also increase your RAM from 4GB to 8GB-DDR3L-1600 SODIMM as that will make your Aspire ES1-531 work even better with Win-10 latest version. Hope this helps, cheers Zwai, stay safe.
