Battery is fully charged, but laptop shuts down when I unplug the cable

Hello! It's been a month maybe since my Acer Aspire E5-576G started shutting down out of the blue when on battery (even when battery was 70% or higher charged). I tried resetting the battery, updated BIOS, but to no avail. Then, for a couple of weeks now, I have had to keep it always plugged in because the laptop shuts down instantly the moment I unplug the electric cable, even if the battery is 90% or higher charged. I generated a battery report from Windows 10 and I noticed something peculiar: the design capacity of the battery is 40.880 mWh, however a month ago the full charge capacity was only half (21.202 mWh); then, after only one week from then, the full charge capacity dropped abruptly to 16.912 mWh, and now it is only 12.982 mWh. Is there something that can be fixed or is the battery dead and should buy another one? I mean, now it's like it didn't even have a battery inside, since I can only use it when plugged in.

You can try to uninstall all the battery drivers in DeviceManager batteries folder. Then shutdown Windows normally. Then re-boot. But the battery reports suggest that the battery is shorting inside and can't hold a very big charge. I would remove it ASAP. New batteries are less than $30. Jack E/NJ
