Hi there! I am completely new to pc gaming and laptops in general. I’ve finally bout a new laptop (A Helios 300:Ph315-53-72XD) and I have no idea what I need to do to set it up out of the box.

For a little background, I’m really intimidated by pc gaming and the amount of knowledgeability of the hardware it requires. I’ve pretty much only ever owned one computer for the last 12-13 years and it is finally burnt out. I know almost nothing about laptops or computers, and as I’ve spent my entire life gaming on consoles decided grab a Helios 300 for my first official laptop since grade school.

The only problem is I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. And completely overwhelmed and confused by all the terminology, technology, and potential user error that could result in me destroying my machine. If anyone would be willing to lend any advice, as well as some links to recommended, helpful, learning material I would be extremely grateful.

At this point I’m almost too afraid to even use it hahaha

OneCardShort first of all disable windows from updating drivers/firmware or even completely then optimize windows properly (check my signature for more help) and undervolt with TS check here and if still needed repaste it with kryonaut or similar if youre able to without voiding the warranty or send it back to acer to get it repasted with stock paste good luck

Ps: also keep your battery properly calibrated (completely discharge and recharge it repeat the process 3 times once every 3/6 months its should be fine depending on usage) avoid using it on battery only if you need to ose it on emergency and really light works otherwise keep it always on AC at all times (dont worry the battery will not overcharge) most importantly enjoy your machine and maintain it

Thanks so much for your help!! I’m still trying to figure everything out and it seems super overwhelming,(cpu, gpu, ram...all Greek to me. I literally no nothing😅) so I appreciate you taking the time to answer me!

Do you know if there’s anything I need to install/remove out of the box? Also, please excuse my idiocy, but paste? Like a physical paste to apply to the laptop? It’s clear I know even less than I thought😂😅

Thanks again for taking the time to reply!!
