Warranty Status

Hi Community!

I am new to the community, my question is probably newbie-related.

Bought a new laptop, and found serial numbers on its backside. When I write it in the warranty check website (I found these two: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/system-information or https://www.acer-apac.com/acer_web/ ) it tells me, the product is unknown. When I register the serial number in my Acer profile and check it ( https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/my-products ), it recognizes the product, so I am sure, I did not mistype or something, the product does exist in the system.

What did I miss?

Regards,

Open the elevated command prompt. Enter 'wmic bios get serialnumber'. Does the result match the sticker's SNID? Jack E/NJ

    This laptop has 2 serials:
-11 characters long "SNID" (numbers only), and
-22 characters long "S/N" (numbers and characters) <- wmic reported back this one, and yes, it does match

Does it help with the website warranty check?

The full wmic result is generally considered the SerialNumberID (SNID). The first 10 characters usually identify (ID)  the ACER model which would be the same for all those models. The remaining numbers usually are your machine's actual production SerialNumber (SN) for that ACER model. Jack E/NJ

The last characters (numbers only) of my S/N id are way different than my SNID.

Yet, I gave it a try on the warranty check webpage. No luck.

Did you purchase this as a factory-new or factory-refurbished model? Sounds like its mainboard was replaced. Jack E/NJ

I purchased it as factory-new. If it is not that, I have no knowledge about it. Originally Acer sold this model with 4 GB ram. I asked for +4 GB into it. I am not sure if it is related or not.

There are HDD ID, S/N, and UUID. Before I send them all to you (btw, do you need all of them?), may I ask please how would you use them? Thx

Did you try entering both full SNIDs at this link if you bought it in Hungary? https://www.acer.com/ac/hu/HU/content/support

That website also recognizes the product, and neither that reports warranty information - the only thing I want to see.

Did you buy this machine in Hungary? If yes, what seller/vendor? Jack E/NJ

I bought it in Hungary, yes. To keep the topic flame-free, I would skip the name of the vendor unless you explain to me why is it important.

It's only important for you to ask the vendor to explain why the SNID on the sticker label doesn't match the mainboard SNID? And why neither SNID reports the warranty information that you want to see. This is not normal for a machine sold as new. Jack E/NJ

I already did that. They say it is all okay, it always works like this.

You buy something anywhere else but in this country, you open the box to check the SNID, you go to the warranty page in that one minute, write it there, and the system recognizes the serial. Are you sure the warranty page is never broken or their database offline for a longer period of time or something?

(About the vendor. If neither they sell me clean stuff in this country, that means, I cannot buy clean Acer stuff in this country at all. And I need something to use. That is why I am asking to skip that problem. I simply cannot do anything with that one.)

I suggest for your own warranty protection that you phone customer service in this link  https://www.acer.com/ac/hu/HU/content/service-contact    to make sure that your machine has warranty coverage instead of assuming the warranty page is broken, It's your decision to make the call or not. Yes, thank you, I already did that (as I wrote above). I have the bill and everything. They say its all good, no panic at all - that is their opinion. This topic is about a "second opinion" of the warranty check page and my experience with that.

About SNID. Acer originally ships these laptops with 4 GB ram. I asked for +4 GB, now the laptop got 8 GB. Can that affect the SNID ?

Yes that might explain it. Especially if the model had a soldered RAM socket. Those mainboard models often  have 4GB & 8GB options, with 4GB being more available. They might've taken  a 4GB model and simply switched its 4GB mainboard with an 8GB mainboard. Jack E/NJ

I found a 4 GB ram module's empty package shipped with the laptop. The laptop got 4 GB soldered, and probably they inserted another 4 GB into a ram socket. I am not sure, mainboard was replaced or not.

Is it possible the warranty site cannot track SNID changes?

I can only tell you that if the SNID isn't recognized, most regional warranty sites do not offer direct chatline, phone or customer service support under the warranty. Perhaps your region handles it differently? Jack E/NJ
