Is The Repair Center Out To Screw The Customer? Nitro VG270U

As a preface I purchased an Acer Nitro VG270U about five months ago for work and games, after leaving my window open for the night I suspect the screen cracked due to temperature changes; something which has not happened with any of my previous acer products.
I sent it in expecting it to be covered under warranty, however i got a call today saying that it was not and they wanted $300 for the screen to be replaced (the current price new for a whole unit) !
I asked if they could work on the price, they were static in their response with no...

Now, they are getting these monitors at a cost probably 1/4 or less of the $274(300 minus the tax) and they want to screw a loyal customer. Is their job to just mitigate warranty related expenses and not support the customer?

Regardless I will never be purchasing an Acer product again professionally or for home use.
