Hi,

I have recently bought an Acer Swift 3 and the camera on it isn't working. It keeps coming up with a black screen and the error code Photo Capture Start Timeout. I am desperate to get it working as I need it for work calls! I have researched and read previous forums and tried everything I have found but I am having no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

BeckyC, I am having a similar problem.  I just received my Acer Swift 3 yesterday, and during my second video call the camera suddenly stopped working.  Hoping someone can help us both!

Have you give the OS permission to use the camera? It's under Settings/Privacy.

Please tell us what programs you are trying to use the camera with. In the meantime, please check the settings in that app and make sure it is using the correct device for the camera. When I first got my Swift, I seem to recall the camera didn't work simply because it wasn't selected as the device to use in settings.

Please start a separate thread for your issue. Intermittent connectivity and no connectivity are not the same problem.

I have just been trying to get it to work in the camera app right now and it's Microsoft Teams I need it to work for - tried it on there as well and it doesn't work.

I've been on to my privacy settings and everything is correct. I've also tried deleting the camera and reinstalling it and that hasn't worked and I've reset my whole laptop and that hasn't worked either.

Ok, go the standalone Camera app in Windows. When you open it, there should be a message that pops up around the left top side of the screen which says "Camera On," ... if you don't see the "camera on" message and the camera isn't working, try switching between camera and video modes... does it work in video, but not camera, or vice versa? Let us know this, as well.

Press ctrl+X then click on device manager. Find camera in the list. Click the little down arrow next to it. You should see "HD user facing" under that. Click on that. Make sure it says this device is working properly. Then click on Events and let us know if you see any errors in the list of messages.

This kind of goes without saying, but please make sure nothing is blocking your camera lens.

Let me know what happens with all of this. I am just trying to get a better idea of what's going on with it right now so any details you can give are important....

One last thing, just to make sure: the camera is not working at all, right? Or is it only working sometimes and not others?

When I go on to my camera it comes up with camera on but with a black screen and then when I try to take a photo it takes a while then comes up with an error code 'Photo Capture Start Timeout'. When I go on to video it starts recording but it's just a black screen!

On the device manager, it says my camera is working properly and there are no errors coming up on the events list either.

And yes my camera isn't working at all. Since I've had it I've not managed to get it working at all.

    Thanks for your help!

Ok, try this next: go download the camera driver directly from the Acer support website. Uninstall the camera, but don't restart or scan for new devices or anything. First, install the driver you downloaded. Then reboot... and let me know what happens...

I can't find the camera driver on the Acer support website. When I type it in it gives me other websites to download it. Shall I try one of these?
