Hi, I just replaced the optical drive in my AM3900. After doing so I can no longer get the fron couver on. It appears the drive is a few mm too wide for it to fit. Help please.

yes the front cover has to come off to insert the drive. I did finally get it in by being a bit creative i turned the pc upside down put the cover on and then put it on its back and pushed HARD. So thats a provlem solved thanks, Alas i did manage to snap off the tiny tab on the wire for the lamps on the couver. With the tab missing i cant tell what way the wires go on so i left them off just menas no front lamps for drive activite not needed any ways.

Have you ever measured the dimensions of the two optical drives with a ruler? If the new ODD is actually wider than the old one, there is not much you can do except returning ( if retailer has good returning policy) it and get an external ODD (usually can get it for around US $30) or get one has the exact dimension before you make the purchase again.

If the dimensions are identical for the old and new ODDs, I would suggest you to try again and pay attention on aligning the notches that keep the front panel shut.

I saw the picture of the AM3900. It is a traditional type of drive bay that you can insert the ODD from the front without the need of removing the front panel. There must be a plate on the chassis close to the back of the ODD prevented it from inserting further. My suggestion is to insert the ODD from the front, pay attention to where the ODD cannot be inserted any further. With the help of a very small plate plate screw driver, try to tilt the back of the ODD a little bit, helping it to clear any obstacle.
Or if any bracket is preventing the ODD from insertion, try to make the bracket a little wider with a stronger screw driver.
