Battery indicator says 50%, but does not increase when plugged in, and laptop shuts off if unplugged

I have a G9-593-73N6.   Starting today, the battery indicator on the Windows taskbar says 50%, and dos not increase despite the laptop being plugged in.  When the laptop is unplugged, it immediately shuts off.  My suspicion is that the battery has gone bad, although I don't know very much about batteries.  I'm also concerned that the taskbar indicates 50% capacity rather than zero - I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the battery if the problem lies elsewhere.

I have tried the following steps to diagnose:

1) I unplugged the computer and held down the power button for 15 seconds.  Allegedly this performs some sort of battery software reset?  It didn't seem to make any difference.
2) I ran the Acer Care Center battery check.  It reports that my battery status is "good": https://imgur.com/bMIDsZd
3) I ran the Windows battery report.  It reports that, while my battery capacity has fallen from its initial design capacity, there is still plenty left.  It also shows that the problem began today/last night:  https://imgur.com/ykQHy1h

Are there any other steps I should try before I just order a new battery?  I don't want to waste $80 if the problem is something other than the actual battery hardware, and the fact that the Acer Care Center and Windows battery report both don't see a problem makes me think there's a chance the problem is something else.

Thanks for any advice!
