Touchscreen Ghost Problem, Aspire R5-471T
When the laptop has been on but not active for a few minutes (for example, I step away to get something from the kitchen), often when I come back it is as if a ghost has taken over the keyboard. Circles appear on the touchscreen as if a ghost were touching it (one user described it well as like raindrops falling on the surface of a pond). These ghost touches also open apps and tabs, and often when I come back to my laptop I will find a dozen new applications open and running, or one will be open in six new tabs. It's impossible to get control of the cursor or use your finger on the screen to shut the machine down. Fortunately, if I close the laptop and wait a few beats, when I reopen it I can usually unlock the screen , close all the unwanted apps and get back to business. Sometimes I have to open and close the laptop a couple of times before it behaves itself. As far as I can tell, all the appropriate drivers are up-to-date. Also, turning the touchpad off doesn't help. This issue has been posted about several times over the years but I have never seen a definitive solution, and the last post was some time ago, so I am starting a new thread. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who had this problem and solved it. The best I have seen is someone who replaced the screen. That seemed to solve the problem, although it apparently came back after a year. ACER wants $600 to replace the screen (I am past warranty), but I have seen them on-line for about $120, and it doesn't seem too difficult a repair. Has anybody had experience with this? Thanks for your help!
