Just upgraded my internet to Century Link 960 mbps. All my other devices have connected but my Aspire AT6W1 will not. Disable card and restarted etc. did not work. Was told to replace wireless card or put one in the back slot. Wondering what wireless card to buy so I don't have the same problem.

Firstly, the Intel 3168NGW wifi/bt card that you have is a card that only handles 433 Mbps speeds max but doesn’t handle up to 960 mbps speeds or anywhere near that.

I would replace it with the M.2 2230 type card of the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 NGFF Wi-Fi/BT Card which is a 3rd generation 802.11ac, dual band. It allows a speed of up to 867 Mbps and comes with higher capacity than usual. It has much better speed than 2×2 802.11n type cards, it has 3x more data capacity, it comes with WiDi support so that you experience seamless connection even on the big screen. This Wi-Fi card has a Bluetooth 4.2 Smart Ready through which connecting to Bluetooth, and similar devices is a breeze.

You must remember to check compatibility before you purchase this Wi-Fi card. It works only on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. Also, it only works with certain devices. You can’t use it with Thinkpad, IBM, or Lenovo. See its specs here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/wireless/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-8260.html

    Dear DesktopJim,
You only have one wireless network card prior to and after the internet upgrade, right?
The one that you currently have is a M.2 card with 2230 form factor just like the one that I have ( but different model number). The one you have is Intel 3168NGW.

I suppose you have reset your wireless network and entered password again.

Also try this newer WiFi/BT card from Intel that would be a newer compatible card. This newer M.2 2230 Wi/Fi-BT card is the Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 its a Q4/2017 type card and it can handle internet speeds of up to 1.73Gbps and has Bluetooth 5.1 also which would be more appropriate and a newer card for you to upgrade to.
