I have a 2018 Nitro5. A couple of months ago it started shutting down while gaming (Civ6, but also Skyrim, Dungeon Siege III and Dragon Age: inquisition). At first it took a while (30 - 45 min), so I thought of clogged fans, which I cleaned. This seemed to have solved the problem for a short while, but then it started shutting down within minutes of starting up the game. This occurs only while plugged in, not when playing on the battery. It's worth to mention that my fans start blazing like hell when playing civ6 while plugged in and that the temperature of the CPU does rise (I installed HWmonitor).

I brought my laptop to a repair shop and they ruled out problems with the fans or dried up cooling paste. The did stress tests and ruled out problems with the battery as well. In the end they found out that my ssd en hdd had bad sectors, which might have caused overheating and the shut down, so they advised me to replace them. I took my laptop home, removed steam from my ssd and the games from my hdd, then reïnstalled steam and Civ6 on the ssd. I shut down in turn 1 when playing Civ. So I guess that if its something with my drives, it must be with my ssd.

My questions are:
- can bad sectors on a ssd cause the laptop to shut down while gaming?
- why does it only occur when plugged in and not when on battery?
- are there any other causes for shutting down?

Another vaguely related question: I don't seem to have Nitro Sense and can't find a place to download the program. Any ideas?

I hope people have any ideas,
