Hi, I have an aspire tc-780 and recently got a ssd and migrated all of my files to it, the cloning was succesful but it doesn't let me boot windows from the ssd, I tried to change the boot priority in the bios but the ssd doesn't show up, what should i do?

    Dear Joshtradx,

Can you be more specific how "it doesn't let you" boot windows from ? Any error message? There may be more than one place that the SSD will show up in BIOS. One is in the boot priority (probably under HDD priority), the other place is at first couple pages of the BIOS, kind of displaying all SATA and NVMe SSDs. My PC BIOS display may be different from yours.

If you say the cloning was successful, then the SSD ought to show up in the BIOS, otherwise you won't make such claim.
What did you use for cloning? I hope it is not an old, old software.

Sometimes you need to go into the BIOS and do a reset to defaults (F9) then save (F10) and reboot before it notices you have a different boot drive than before.

I used Samsung data migration, and when it finished it turned off my computer but it didn't restart or anything, i had to do it all over again and then I disconnected the hard drive, then it booted from the SSD, so it worked, but if I have both of them, the hard drive and SSD connected at the same time it boots from the hard drive and the SSD disappears from the BIOS completely, so I'm using it with the SSD right now but I need to find a way to make it work, I think I read on another post that the BIOS my computer has, is very limited, i don't know why but it might be that, could I fix the problem formatting the hard drive?

    Dear Joshtradx,

Have you tried to load BIOS default as Billsey suggested?

On the start up black screen, if you continue to hit F12 key ( I believe that should be the key for most Acer PCs), you should be able to reach the Boot Menu. What did you see from Boot Menu? Two Windows Boot Manager or just one (if you have both connected)?

I think we are talking about the confusion of  two "Windows Boot Manager" in the BIOS. Now you can see booting from the SSD is faster than from the old HDD. I would suggest just retaining the SSD as the boot drive, and use the old HDD as the additional data drive. Backup all the data from the old HDD first and then format it to NTFS format. If your PC supports hot swap (plug in while the PC is up and running) or use a partition software to format the old HDD, that will do it.

Best is to put the old HDD in an external USB case, boot off the SSD, plug the case in then use Disk Management to wipe the partition on the HDD then create a new, full sized partition. after that you can have both the SSD and HDD in the system without conflicts. My guess is that the cloning software cloned too much, and it's now telling the system both drives have the same serial number, so are identical.
