Hello!
im using acer aspire gx-281 tower (eu model so r5 1400 and 1070) and i would like to update my bios.
Im currently on R01-A0 bios version so the first one since ive never updated it in 3years.
But everytime i try to run the WIN/Flash.bat file it just says "- Error : BIOS is write-protected - Error: BIOS Report Error."
I tried every version of the bios (A1-A4). I have also tried two methods at flashing via usb.
1st one with drive formatted to FAT32 and files inside but doesnt show up when i spam F12 or in BIOS.
2nd one was with usb formatted to MSDOS bootable media with files inside, no luck with that ;/
I have also tried with legacy support on but that just gives me media boot error.

im a tech geek and also work at a pc repair shop so dont be afraid to give complicated answers.

Are you sure you have not set a password for BIOS?
Have you tried the flash drive in NTFS format instead of FAT32
    ?

Do you have Secure Boot "Disabled " in BIOS prior to update?

Were you able to update BIOS before the past three years? Just want to know if it is a "Locked BIOS" that will not allow update at all from the beginning.
Here you are facing a risky situation. If I were you, I'll try to proceed to use the "Attribute" command to change the file permission only if I can afford to have a  "Damaged" computer. So, for experiment purpose only. Otherwise, I'll try to let it be.
That's all I can think of now. Hope experts here can help you with that.

Firstly, why are you trying to update your BIOS? As BIOS updates are only done to update to whatever the new BIOS update is titled to fix e.g. in version R01.A2 it’s for “Update SMBIOS module” etc etc.

The BIOS version that you have R01-A0 is the OEM factory BIOS. Which BIOS version are you trying to update your existing R01-A0 to and you are getting "- Error : BIOS is write-protected - Error: BIOS Report Error."? Is it to the last update version titled “Update TCG2.14 for RS3 support” R01-A4 and dated 2018/03/05? If it is then try to only update to the next up titled “BIOS” version R01.A1 dated 2017/06/30 and see if that updates and follow from there.

NOTE: Be careful with BIOS updates as “Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution” as you can BRICK your PC!

Ok that is good that you know the risks of BIOS updating. Have a look at this guide from a previous "Acer Community" post "Need help with BIOS update" for the GX-281 here: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/551578/need-help-with-bios-update and see if that helps? Good luck.

OK, I've done a bit more digging... Which position are each of these two jumpers in?
It's a bit tough to read, but I believe they are CMOS clear and CMOS Write Protect.

    There is no jumper

On either? Maybe you need to add a jumper (while powered off!) to WP1 pins 1&2 as shown in the fuzzed out area.
