I just bought an Acer Spin 1 SP11132NP6CV 116. It came with Windows 10 installed. I started to install Ubuntu Budgie 18 on it from a USB drive, but during the installation I got an fatal error about GRUB failing to install. I clicked 'retry' a couple times but it kept failing. It led me to a screen that asked me to send a crash report, then returned me to an Ubuntu desktop that I assume was running directly from the flash drive since it failed to install on the hard drive. I shut it down.

I tried to restart the laptop with the USB stick but all it will do is flash the Acer logo and then take me to the 'Security Boot Failure' screen. I have looked up this error and everybody suggests trying to get into BIOS during startup to turn off boot security or boot from USB, but I can't figure out how to access the BIOS menu from this machine. I've tried ESC, F1, F2, F8, F10, F12, ctrl-alt-delete, and 'Del' on its own, nothing works -- always just takes me back to the Security Boot Failure screen.

Does anybody have any ideas how I could get to the BIOS menu or any other way to get this to boot from USB?

It should be F2 to enter the BIOS. Try starting you click storm before turning the power on and continuing until the splash screen goes away. Some of the Linux installs change the EFI settings such as to leave almost no time for the BIOS entry.
