I'm planning to add another 8 gb ram stick in my laptop and I'm wondering can I use a different type of ram with the standard  8 gb ram ddr4 that came with the laptop I heard its not good to mix different rams, I don't have the knowledge of this I'm new. Can someone explain to me and tell me the recommendation. I have the 2018 helios 300

    Hi,
Could you please post  the full model name, like PH3xx-xx, you should upgrade with same size and same speed RAM modules to utilise dual channel mode, for example, if you have a DDR4 8GB 2666MHz module already installed, you need to buy another 8GB DDR4 2666MHz module,  if you install a 2400MHz, the system RAM will run at 2400MHz speed.

One more thing its fine if its a different brand right with the same size/speed ofc.
