Problems with Realtek sound driver ever since last major Windows update. It now says I have no on=board sound input or output. I have tried updating the driver in Device manager.. it shows a yellow warning triangle on Device manager, as if it's not working properly but when I try to update it says I have the latest driver.. but the point is it doesn't work :(  Can only listen via headphones which is ok for music/video but wouldn't work for Zoom as I have no mic!

I have tried uninstalling the driver and then downloading it direct from Acer... but it wont install.. gets nearly the end then shows an error.

I am at my wits end and wondering... can anything be done?  I am really not techie and so this feels overwhelming

Open device manager→right click on your audio driver→uninstall device→uninstall
After uninstalling restart your laptop and check

If problem still persists then perform system restore
    Follow these steps→
    1. Open Start.
    2. Search for Create a restore point, and click the top result to open the System Properties experience.
    3. Click the System Restore button.

    4. Click the Next button.

    5. Select the restore point that you want to use on your computer.
    6. Click the Scan for affected programs button to understand the apps that will no longer be available because they're added after the creation of the restore point.

    7. Click the Close button.
    8. Click the Next button.
    9. Click the Finish button.

Once you complete the steps, System Restore will return your computer to the previous working state.

Thank you .. I'd tried first suggestion previously, working on the second suggestion - 1st attempt failed as it says I need to temporarily close my antivirus.. will try that tomorrow and will let you know if it works but in meantime, very much appreciate your help thank you

Hi - I really appreciate your help.. it should have worked... I tried disabling my antivirus - but that didn't change the end result - it said it couldn't restore.. I think one of the problems is also that it doesn't seem to offer the option to restore more than a few days ago.. I really needed it to restore  a few days before that.. about a week ago..  Perhaps nothing can be done?

Thank you again, loads of things I can, (and will!) try there, and I've made notes! One thing I am not clear on is... would it restore to a point, say 16th August - the options seem only to show 18th August?
