The spin 5 shuts itself off At 25% as if the battery has completely died and it charges for an hour or so up to 90% which lasts around 1hour 30 Before it dies and switches itself off again. I’ve done the battery reset thing where you put a pin in the bottom of the laptop and I’ve drained the battery and recharged it twice but still the same result. The battery charging light doesn’t even come on once it reaches 90%. Wondering what to do and what the problem may be. It happened after I hadn’t used my laptop for a good month or two, no previous problems or signs of problems. I’m not very good with computers.

Thanks

That's not unusual when Windows gets confused about the battery stats. What you should do is run the calibration routine a few times until it gets back to more reasonable numbers. Disconnect from power and run the system until it shuts down due to low battery, the plug it in and wait for a full charge before turning it back on. Repeat that a couple of times and the numbers should get close to reflecting the real world. Remember that the 'time left' will fluctuate depending on your current use, so when you're gaming it'll show a much lower time left than when you're browsing.

Aah okay I’ve done it twice so far and just did another reset thing with the pin hole at the bottom of the laptop and it’s gone up to showing 2 hours of time left. I guess I’ll keep cycling it another few times. Thanks

Yup, though note that the battery reset and the Windows calibration are two different things. The battery reset is to clear the data that's actually stored on the battery. That's especially useful when that data is telling the system that the battery has gone bad or is much smaller than it should be. There are bugs in both the smarts on the batteries and the battery handling by Windows, so we have both procedures to clear things up...

Well I’ve done it another few times but it’s still only charging up to 90%.

Getting better and better though. :) Give it some time in normal use, ignoring the displayed numbers, then try a couple more recalibrations. The more data Windows has, the easier it is to adjust to good numbers.

OK, go through the full set of steps for a battery reset, then another calibration afterwards. Disconnect power, press and hold the reset for 15-30 seconds then release, wait 15-30 minutes then plug in and wait for full charge indication, then turn back on. That's the reset, so run another calibration and see if it's getting over 80%...
