Completely frustrating, useless without a mains connection. Needs mains connection to reboot. Happens every time.
I have raised a repair request with Acer but so far no-one has com back to me.

What is your machine? Just for completeness, for example, mine is an A515-54G-70Y9.

Now, how old is it? The age question is most relevant, batteries degrade overtime and if it is "too old" (quotes because it could just be 2 years) it would be expected to see the problem you're facing, the battery just isn't capable to hold as much charge as it could when it was new. Because this is something inherent to all lithium-ion based rechargeable batteries they are generally excluded from warranty, or they're warranted for a much shorter time.

I say generally because if the device were actually 2 months old for example, it would be most likely that there was a defect in that battery instead, so it should be replaced free of charge.

Could you download and run a program to provide us with more data on the battery? BatteryInfoView for example is enough, it should show something like this:

The battery of that screenshot is brand new still, but in yours there should be a big discrepancy between the full charged capacity and designed capacity, leading to a low battery health overall.
