I have Acer Aspire E1-531G, I pressed the power button when acer logo appeared i immediately started holding alt and F10, but it's booting up into the normal mode instead of recovery mode D2D Recovery is enabled in the BIOS, I did clean install of Windows 8.1 with an OEM product key now I can't boot to the recovery partition! What should I do now?

Maybe that's the problem, if the clean installation of Windows 8.1 changed or even deleted Acer's default recovery partition the Alt+F10 method may be useless for you. Take it with a grain of salt, because I have never used that procedure myself, and don't know what would affect it.

Let's tag @JackE or @egydiocoelho, they know more about this than I do.

If you used a Microsoft generic Win8.1 installation instead of the ACER-flavored Win8.1, the ACER hidden recovery partition may no longer be accessible. Try this. Set and save a BIOS supervisor password. Then re-enter the BIOS with the password and disable secure boot. Then exit and shut machine off. Then press and hold the ALT+F10 key. Then while still holding ALT+F10, then try to turn the machine on. Jack E/NJ

  • The erecovery partition will also only work if the user has not formatted the hard drive.

To disable the secure boot I need to switch the boot type from UEFI to Legacy BIOS

I don't think so, Secure Boot is a feature of UEFI, but in Acer machines it may be necessary for you to set a supervisor password before you can act on that setting.

As for what to do next, it may be necessary to perform another clean install if you can't access your current system in any other way. There is an option booting from installation media to try to repair an existing system:

If that doesn't work either, you can probably salvage the data you need from the disk using any live environment and external USB media to use for storage, but a proper reinstall may be in order.

Or I can create recovery drive instead this works for Windows 8 to Windows 10

Go to the Microsoft USB media creation tool link, and prepare an installation USB stick for either Win8x or Win10. From either one you can try to salvage your personal files from the Advanced troubleshooting sections of the installation USB stick. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery
