My laptop is only 8 months old and today it isn’t starting. The charger is working fine. I tried pressing the battery reset button to no avail. If I hold a key down for 20-30 seconds then it starts but when I let go of the key the laptop shuts down. Because I purchased the laptop in uk but live in Singapore the warranty is not valid here and either way ACER service station said they don’t have the parts here for uk models and so there is nothing they can do. Any advice?

I would have thought they had a global logistic network and at least diagnose your laptop over there in Singapore to tell you what's wrong with it, or fix it even if it took a while for parts to arrive, but if you have contacted them and they have stated that I guess not...

You could try contacting them again, maybe a different agent will give you a different answer, or at least suggest that the laptop is brought to a servicing center to be inspected.

As for troubleshooting from afar but any of us, it seems... rather complicated without being able to assess things. You have tried the battery reset button already and it didn't work, have you tried opening it, disconnecting the battery connector and running it directly off of the power adapter?

If it doesn't power on that way either it may need servicing for sure, maybe the keyboard itself is damaged so the power signal is being mixed with another one, I don't think the power on button is independent :(

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was very surprised with the ACER service centre response. I waited for an hour and a half to see an agent and then was told that they think it’s the keyboard but cant be sure, and can’t help with parts and told me to see an independent repairer. Quite astonished with the response from a global brand and certainly won’t be buying more products and I’ll openly advise people not to as well. I just got a call from an independent repairer who confirmed it’s the keyboard and are confident they can repair it. I’ll post a reply once I have the outcome.
