Overheating chipset???

I just bought a friend's acer laptop that I've seen work perfectly before but all of sudden it started to switch off by itself. I assumed its the cpu and fan overheating so I dusted and cleaned it but to no avail its still switching off. While I'm tinkering around with the motherboard I realised that a small area under the intel chipset (SL8JC) on the other side of the motherboard is extremely overheating, like something is focusing sunlight with a magnifying glass on that tiny spot. It starts to get so hot from plug-in that I'm afraid to leave it on for more than 10 seconds now. I don't know what to do because I can't check under the chipset since it's not removable like a cpu. Please help me, I'm looking forward to your advice on how to proceed.

But do you run it like that or with a cooling solution on top?! I mean, the chipset is bound to get hot as well I find it odd that it's not connected to the cooling solution but maybe you could get one yourself and put it on top of it.

Judging by the height of the cooling thingy I see on the right you have some headroom for a couple of mm of copper, cleaning it up + a copper heatsink might just do it.

Or, seeing that you have the version of it that doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, you could try locating the cooling part for that area and substituting it for the one you have, perhaps connecting it to the chipset as well. I don't really know if it's normal or not that spot in particular getting hot, but there's always hacky things one can do to mitigate it.
