Hi,

I have had my Acer Aspire A315-42 laptop for exactly 10months now and its stopped charging. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the device itself or the charger. Any ideas how I can check this or what is my quickest solution as I have uni work to be completed by Monday!

Thanks

Uni work to be completed for Monday... first of all, back it up. If you're not working on a version control system or something like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc. Copy your work to an USB stick or one of those services. It's better to have a copy of it accessible from a different device, you may need to work at your uni instead.

Now, troubleshooting, tough from here to Monday. Do you have a multimeter? You could try probing the power adapter to see if it's outputting anything at all. 19v is the usual voltage, but check in the label it has. You need to rule out things that could be wrong, if you can measure the output of the power adapter you have to try with a different one.

Being Tuesday today you still have time to go to a shop and get even a generic one with a tip for your Acer and see if that works. If it works, then the problem was your power adapter; if it still doesn't charge... maybe the power jack is busted and the laptop would require servicing.

There's little else that I can think of to check on your own without disassembling the laptop because the battery is probably inside too, and everything that crosses my mind seems to require specialized equipment, like charging the battery as if it were an RC LiPo one.
