I bought an Aspire A315-42R9ET a couple months ago. does it have adaptive brightness? if so, how do i activate it? i don't know if i remember correctly, it's possible that it was active the first day i started the laptop, but disappered after i uninstalled all the bundled software and drivers (then i got the minimum drivers from windows update).

Heh-heh. if you still have AcerQuickAccess app, open it. Click settings. Turn adaptive brightness back on. If you deleted it, you might be able to get partway there via the generic Windows controls by searching 'adaptive brightness'. However I suggest that you get with the program and download the file below and put the QuickAccess back in there. It's not all bloatware. Some of the drivers are made specifically for the ACER proprietary mainboard. And some of the ACER apps like QA make life simpler. https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Application/Quick Access/Quick Access_Acer_3.00.3009_W10x64_A.zip?acerid=637060168205096124&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE A315-42&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Did you click on each QA icon on its left pane to see what options are revealed?  Jack E/NJ

yes, it wasn't there. after my post, i went into regedit and Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Quick Access, modified adaptive brightness into 1, and the option appeared. i enabled it but as far as i could tell, it looked like the screen didn't change its brightness if i moved my laptop to a darker or lighter place. i still don't know if my model can organically do it or not.

my model has an amd integrated video card, not intel.
i navigated the windows advanced energy options like you did after, but the adaptive brightness option isn't there

Well, perhaps the best way to rule in or rule out the possibility is a full erase everything ALT+F10 cold boot factory reset as long as you didn't also wipe out the hidden ACER factory recovery partition. If it was mine, a factory reset would not seem to be worth the trouble for something I can easily adjust manually with the brightness keys. Jack E/NJ
